Christine Meyer

Past President

Christine Meyer was born and educated in Salzburg, Austria. After matriculation in Salzburg she studied at the College of Commerce in Birmingham and the University of Cambridge in England. After gathering business experience in Austria she followed the call for new adventures and immigrated to Canada, where she fulfilled many dreams of her youth and developed her full potential in the business world; she became a licensed pilot, she took up sailing and even, albeit only once, car racing. All this not in the least to the detriment of her professional ambitions which made her into the accomplished and experienced Canadian business woman she is today, valued by clients and associates for her ability, knowledge and expertise.

Never has she lost her connection to her homeland and has remained a staunch supporter of all things Austrian, becoming a member and a Director of the Canadian Austrian Society of Toronto at its inception in 1968. She was elected President of the Society in 1999 and has served in that capacity with untiring enthusiasm through 2013. She has been actively involved in strengthening Austrian-Canadian relations by bringing together both Austrians as well as Canadians with special interest in Austria, its people and culture. For her many services to the Republic of Austria she was awarded the Decoration of Merit in Gold by the President of the Republic of Austria in 2003. As a member of the Board of Directors of the Austrian Canadian Council she was also awarded the Council's Gold Medal in 2012 for furthering the ACC's and the Canadian-Austrian Society's goals and for her exceptional work on their behalf.

After a courageous battle with cancer, Christine passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family in Salzburg, Austria, on November 29, 2015, at the age of 75.
